Coors Brewing Company Sponsors the Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic

Coors Brewing Company today announced it will sponsor the upcoming Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic. As long-time supporters of the popular Classic between two historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Coors acknowledges that the true winners of the game are the deserving students who will receive scholarships raised through the event.

“The Atlanta Football Classic is a great way to show our support of America’s historically Black colleges and universities, and community partners such as 100 Black Men of Atlanta,” says Ervin Lee, director of the Coors On Point marketing program. “Once again, we are proud to share in the tradition and excitement surrounding this historical match-up between two fine teams.”

The Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic, now in its 17th year, is organized by The 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., to benefit Project Success, the organization’s post-secondary preparation and tuition assistance program for at-risk youth. According to John Grant, Jr., executive director of The 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Coors’ involvement over the years has helped Project Success raise millions of dollars in scholarships for students from underserved communities.

Through mentoring and academic support, Project Success also offers students personal guidance and exposure to educational, leadership, cultural and recreational opportunities designed to help them become successful and contributing members of society. “There is no greater benefit or reward for a company than to reinvest in the most important asset of our communities — our young people,” says Grant. “Many of these students are the first generation in their families to attend college, which encourages others in the family and even the community to follow in their footsteps. It’s a winning proposition from every aspect.”

This year’s Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic features Tennessee State University (TSU) squaring off with Florida A&M University (FAMU) at the Georgia Dome at 3:00 ET on Saturday, September 24. More than 70,000 spectators are expected to pack the Dome to see if the TSU Tigers can reclaim victory from the FAMU Rattlers, who beat them in a close game last season, 21-15. The game, which will be televised by Turner South, will also feature a stirring half-time performance by the powerful TSU Aristocrat of Bands and the mighty FAMU Marching 100.

Coors, who has been a major sponsor for most of the event’s 17-year history, is working with key retail chain partners and local African-American retailers to promote the Classic to adult fans through special Coors Light displays and ads designed to maximize attendance and support.
